Youth Swim Lessons

Mayor Derek Armstead, the City of Linden, and the Department of Parks & Recreation and the Gateway Family YMCA are pleased to offer Youth Swim Lessons, due to a grant received by Phillips 66 and in partnership with the City of Linden.

  • Who: Youth. Linden residents.
  • What: Free youth swim lessons. Classes will be held in the Fall at either our Union or Rahway branches.
  • Where: Classes will be held in either of the following branches:
    1. The Gateway Family YMCA Rahway Branch, which is located at 1564 Irving St, Rahway, NJ 07065.
    2. The Gateway Family YMCA Five Points Branch, which is located at 201 Tucker Ave, Union, NJ 07083.
  • When: Fall, 2024.
  • How: Free program. Slots are limited and this program is on a first come, first served basis. Click here to fill out the interest form. Please note that submitting this interest form does not guarantee placement in the program. You will be contacted the week of October 14, 2024 if you are selected.

Pumpkin Painting Pizza Party

Mayor Derek Armstead, the City of Linden and the Department of Parks & Recreation invite you to attend the Pumpkin Painting Pizza Party.

  • Who: For children 13 and under.
  • What: Pumpkin Painting Pizza Party. Children will receive a pumpkin to paint and pizza to eat.
  • When: Saturday, October 19, 2024 from 10am until 1pm.
  • Where: John T. Gregorio Center (JTG), which is located at 330 Helen Street.
  • How: Click here to register. Fee is $5 per person, limited space is available. No money will be accepted at the door.

Linden Wood Avenue Merchant & Business Storefront Halloween Decoration Contest

Mayor Derek Armstead, the City of Linden, the Department of Parks & Recreation and Uptown Linden invite you to participate in the Wood Avenue Merchant and Business Storefront Halloween Decoration Contest. Storefronts must be decorated and registered prior to judging on October 19, 2024.

  • What: Linden Wood Avenue Merchant and Business Storefront Halloween Decoration Contest. The winning store will receive a first place plaque to be hung in the store, and will be invited to ride of a float at the 71st Linden Halloween Parade on October 27, 2024. The winning Business/Merchant will also be acknowledged at the November City Council Meeting.
  • When & How: Storefronts must be decorated and registered prior to judging on October 18, 2024. Judging will take place on October 19, 2024. Complete the form believe to register your business in the Halloween Decoration Contest.

    Creative Aging Workshop Series

    Mayor Derek Armstead, the City of Linden, and the Department of Parks & Recreation are pleased to offer the Creative Aging Workshop Series. The Creative Aging Workshop Series was made possible by the Creative Aging Grant from the State of New Jersey’s Council of the Arts, and the City of the Linden. Learn to share your own stories!

    • What: Creative Aging Workshop series. Learn to share your own stories! Join seasoned-pros from Pennsylvania and New Jersey, with refreshments and an opportunity to win prizes.
    • Where: John T. Gregorio Center (JTG), which is located at 330 Helen Street.
    • When: Come when you can! Multi-session from 10:30am until 12pm.
      • October 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30.
        • Free live entertainment on October 9 and 23.
      • Film showing will take place Wednesday, November 20, 2024.

    Halloween Parade

    Mayor Derek Armstead, the City of Linden, the Department of Parks & Recreation and the Halloween Parade Committee invite you to attend Linden’s 71st annual Halloween Parade on October 27, 2024!

    • What: Halloween Parade!
    • When: Sunday, October 27, 2024.
      • Parade lineup will begin at 1pm.
      • Parade start is at 2pm.

    Senior Citizen Beginners Strength Training Class

    Mayor Derek Armstead, the City of Linden, and the Department of Parks & Recreation are pleased to offer Senior Citizen Beginners Strength Training Class. Join us for a total body workout! Learn how to utilize weights to build strong bones.

    • What: Senior Citizen Beginners Strength Training Class. Join us for a total body workout! Learn how to utilize weights to build strong bones. Class Benefits: strengthen and build muscles, strengthen core, enhance posture, prevent injuries, increase energy and endurance, boost metabolism, burn fat and calories, strengthen bones, enhance your mental health and improve sleep health.
    • Where: Linden Multi-Purpose Center, which is located at 1025 John St.

    Senior Citizen Bowling

    Mayor Derek Armstead, the City of Linden, and the Department of Parks & Recreation are pleased to offer Senior Citizen Bowling!

    • Who: For Linden Senior Residents.
    • What: Senior Citizen Bowling!
    • Where: Jersey Lanes which is located at 30 Park Avenue. Pick up and drop off will take place at the John T. Gregorio Center, which is located at 330 Helen Street.
    • When: Wednesdays, October 2 through December 11, from 1pm until 3pm.
    • How: Fee for program is $5. Must be a Recreation Senior Citizen Member to register. The fee includes 2 hours of bowling time, transportation and shoes. Pick up and drop off will take place at the JTG center.

    Senior Citizen Water Aerobics

    Mayor Derek Armstead, the City of Linden, and the Department of Parks & Recreation are pleased to offer Senior Citizen Water Aerobics.

    • Who: For Linden Senior Residents.
    • What: Seniors will enjoy the benefit of low-impact water aerobics led by a certified instructor. Swimwear is required, and swim caps are recommended.
    • Where: Rahway YMCA, which is located at 1564 Irving Street, Rahway, NJ 07065. Transportation will be provided, drop off and pick up will be from the John T. Gregorio Center, which is located at 330 Helen Street.
    • When: Tuesdays, October 1 through December 17, from 9am until 10am.
    • How: Fee $10 (+ $6 insurance fee). To register please call 908-474-8600.

    2024 Fall Tennis Lessons

    Mayor Derek Armstead, the City of Linden, the Department of Parks & Recreation, and USTA Certified Pro tennis instructor Tony Labonte are pleased to present Fall Tennis Lessons. Youth and Adult sessions will be offered.

      • Tuesday classes will meet at Memorial Park (2600 South Wood Avenue) on September 24, October 1, 8, 15, and 22.
      • Saturday classes will meet at Wilson Park (1113 Summit Terrace) on September 21, 28, October 5, 12, and 19.
    • How: Youth Session is $80. Adult Session is $90. Additional $10 fee for non-residents. Loaner racquets provided. To view full program description and register online, click here.
