Please take Notice that the City of Linden, Zoning Board of Adjustment’s scheduled meeting on Monday, October 14, 2024 has been cancelled. The next City of Linden, Zoning Board of Adjustment meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at 6:30 pm in the Planning Board Room in City Hall, 301 North Wood Avenue, Linden, NJ 07036. The meeting will be conducted in person. Official action will be taken and portions of the meeting may be held in executive session.

Public Works Schedule Change Alert

Please note the Department of Public Works (DPW) upcoming schedule change from October 14 through October 18, 2024, for Columbus Day. Click here to view and/or download the Public Works modified schedule for October, 2024.

  • No Collections
    • Columbus Day – Monday, October 14 – the Department of Public Works (DPW) will be closed. The Recycling Center and DPW yard bulk drop-off will also be closed. This closure will facilitate the following changes to your collection schedule.
  • Cardboard / Paper Collections
    • Tuesday, October 15 – Cardboard (brown carts) in Districts 1, 2, 3, 9, and 10.
    • Wednesday, October 16 – Cardboard (brown carts) in Districts 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8.
  • Sanitation Collections
    • Thursday, October 17 – Sanitation (green carts) in Districts 1, 2, 3, 9, and 10.
    • Friday, October 18 – Sanitation (green carts) in Districts 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8.
  • There will be no bagged leaves collection or bulk trash collection this week.

Public Notice for Plenary Retail Consumption License Bid

Public Notice that Resolution 2024-381 was adopted by the City Council of the City of Linden on September 18, 2024, allowing the municipality to consider the issuance of a new hotel/motel exception liquor license pursuant to N.J.S.A. 33:1-12.20 utilizing the provisions under N.J.S.A. 33:1-19.3 through N.J.S.A. 33:1-19.6 by Public Sale to the highest qualified bidder.

All bidders must be qualified to have an interest in a retail license under the standards set forth in the Alcoholic Beverage Control Act and regulations thereunder, N.J.S.A. 3 3: 1-1 et seq. and N.J.AC. 13 :2-1.1 et seq. and all City of Linden Ordinances. All bidders for the license must submit a sealed Bid with the following: 1.) A full and complete 12-page ABC application form, and supporting documentation; 2.) A sealed envelope marked ” Bid Submission” with the bidder’s bid amount and in the same envelope, a certified check or bank check payable to the City of Linden in the amount of 10% of the bid as a deposit; 3.) A Certified Statement that the bidder knows of no reason why he or she would be disqualified from having interest in a hotel/ motel exception license. Pursuant to N.J.S.A. 3 3: 1-12.20, the issuance of the new license is for the use at a hotel or motel containing 100 sleeping rooms or more at a minimum bid price of $25,000.00 plus $50.00 per sleeping room pursuant to the provisions of N.J.S.A. 33:1-19.3 through N.J.S.A. 33:1-19.6. 

All bid submissions, which must include all three of the foregoing items; must be submitted to City Hall- Municipal Clerk’s Office, A.B.C. Secretary, 301 N. Wood Avenue, Linden, N.J. 07036, by Friday, November 15, 2024.  Any bid not submitted by that date will not be considered. On Monday, November 18, 2024 at 10am, in the Council Conference Room, second floor of Linden City Hall, 301 North Wood Avenue, Linden, NJ 07036 the A.B.C. Secretary shall announce the qualified bidders that have satisfied the foregoing bidding requirements. The A.B.C. Secretary and Purchasing Agent will open and read publicly the name and bid amount for all bids received on Friday, November 22, 2024 at 10am, in the Council Conference Room, second floor of Linden City Hall, 301 North Wood Avenue, Linden, NJ 07036. The City of Linden reserves the right to reject all bids. All professional service contractors are required to comply with the requirements of N.J.S.A. 52:32-44 (Business Registration of Public Contractors), N.J.S.A. 10:5-31 et seq. And N.J.A.C. 17:27 et seq. (Contract Compliance and Equal Employment Opportunities in Public Contracts).

Submission by Corporations and Partnerships shall include a completed Disclosure of Ownership form (N.J.S.A. 52:25-24.2) and shall include a completed Non-Collusion Affidavit.

The City of Linden reserves the right to reject any or all submissions due to any defects of waive informalities and accept any submissions that in their judgment will be in the best interest of the City of Linden. The City of Linden shall award the contract or reject all submissions no later than 60 days from receipt of the same.

Youth Swim Lessons

Mayor Derek Armstead, the City of Linden, and the Department of Parks & Recreation and the Gateway Family YMCA are pleased to offer Youth Swim Lessons, due to a grant received by Phillips 66 and in partnership with the City of Linden.

  • What: Free youth swim lessons. Classes will be held in the Fall at either our Union or Rahway branches.
  • Where: Classes will be held in either of the following branches:
    1. The Gateway Family YMCA Rahway Branch, which is located at 1564 Irving St, Rahway, NJ 07065.
    2. The Gateway Family YMCA Five Points Branch, which is located at 201 Tucker Ave, Union, NJ 07083.
  • When: Fall, 2024.

Union County Gun Surrender Program

The Union County Prosecutor’s Office, Union County Board of County Commissioners, Union County Police Chiefs Association, Union County Sheriff’s Department, and Union County Police Department along with the local police departments from Berkeley Heights, Clark, Cranford, Elizabeth, Fanwood, Garwood, Hillside, Kenilworth, Linden, Mountainside, New Providence, Plainfield, Rahway, Roselle, Roselle Park, Scotch Plains, Springfield, Summit, Union, Westfield, and Winfield present the Union County Gun Surrender Program.
