Emergency Food Distribution Event Rescheduled to Thursday, February 11th @ 1pm Due to Weather

The Union County Board of County Commissioners, the Village Super Market of Springfield Township, and Gargiulo Produce are providing a walk-up food distribution event to all Union County residents affected by COVID-19 on Thursday February 11th at 1pm. Event Details

  • First 300 people will receive shelf-safe food and fresh produce on a first come, first served basis.
  • One food distribution per household, while supplies last.
  • Bring a cart for the walk-up.
  • Refrigerate any perishable items shortly after distribution.
  • Bring one (1) proof of NJ residency, such as a utility bill, driver’s license, ID card, etc.
  • Event will take place rain or shine.

Fiserv $10k Grants to Black & Minority Owned Businesses

In response to the economic challenges brought on by COVID-19 and civil unrest, Fiserv, a financial services tech company,  will award grants in the amount of $10,000 to Black- and minority-owned businesses that have been impacted by COVID-19 and social unrest. The grant, which will be offered to select cities, is now open for New York and surrounding areas, including New Jersey.

The Back2Business Grant is a part of a larger Fiserv initiative to equip minority-owned small businesses with vital education, coaching, and capital to truly fuel growth of our communities, creating sustainable business and shared value for all. In addition to the grant, the program will include opportunities for mentorship and access to technology solutions that enable revenue generation.

Grant applications are now open for eligible small businesses in New York and New Jersey. Applications are due by February 12th, 2021.  Applicants can find more information and apply for the grant here

    Changing COVID-19 Restrictions

    Indoor Capacity To Increase from 25% to 35% for Select Businesses

    Beginning Friday, February 5th at 8am, indoor capacity limits will increase to 35% of stated capacity for food and beverage establishments, personal care businesses, and recreational and entertainment businesses, including gyms, fitness centers, and casinos. Certain indoor gatherings, including religious services and wedding ceremonies, will be limited to 35% of the room’s capacity up to 150 people. Learn more about detailed changes for your specific industry.

    State to Lift Requirement to End Bar and Restaurant Service at 10pm

    Starting Friday, February 5th, the State requirement to end service in bars and restaurants at 10pm will be lifted. However, municipalities and/or counties may continue to regulate hours of operation after 8pm, giving local officials the ability to respond to unique situations where they notice non-compliance.     Snow Update

    • Due to the massive snowfall brought on by this Nor’Easter, DPW will be plowing and salting well into Tuesday morning. As a result, commingled (blue cart) recycling tomorrow (Tuesday, February 2nd, 2021) is cancelled.
    • After the storm is over, please put your blue carts out and DPW will work the rest of the week to empty them, starting with Districts 1,2,3 9 & 10, then the rest later in the week, possibly into Saturday.
    • As of now, garbage will still be collected as per the normal schedule.
    • Please do not blow snow into the streets!

    Recycling Collection for Monday February 1st, 2021

    Due to expected inclement weather conditions, recycling collection for Monday, February 1st 2021 has been cancelled.

    Please do your best to keep cars in driveways when possible during snow, to help our DPW snow removal team quickly and efficiently clear the snow from streets.
